About Us
Fast fashion is a concept that utilizes trend replication, rapid production, and low quality materials in order to bring inexpensive styles to the public. Unfortunately, this results in harmful impacts to the environment, human well-being, and ultimately our wallets.
Green Couture is a pending nonprofit organization dedicated to guiding young people with their sustainable fashion journey through workshops, discussion panels, and clothing swap events. Additionally, the organization had collected unwanted clothes and has donated them to local homeless shelters and impoverished students in Wake County. This is a better alternative than simply throwing away unwanted clothes since clothes release toxic gases like methane and carbon dioxide when they decompose in landfills.
The organization has also started collecting ethnic clothes within the South Asian community. Many families living in the United States face the difficulty of not knowing what to do with traditional clothes that are outgrown or out of style. Most families end up donating them to places like the Salvation Army and Goodwill. However, these clothing pieces end up in landfills because customers who regularly shop at donation centers don’t buy ethnic clothing. As a solution, we ship the traditional clothes we get at donation drives to orphanages and shelters across South Asia. It’s a win-win situation as the donated clothing creates a difference in people’s lives and it’s not going to waste.
